Woman Maoist, with reward of 8L, surrenders in Sukma

Raipur: Vetti Mangi, a woman cadre of the banned outfit of Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, surrendered before District Police, Special Task Force and CoBRA in Sukma on Saturday. A native of Kistaram in Sukma, Mangi had joined the movement in 2017. She was working as member of company number 1 of Marh division of Maoist outfit in Kutul area and had been active in violent activities. In her surrender statement, Mangi citied the opening up of security camps in the core areas of Maoists, which was affecting their movement and hideouts as the reason for her surrender. She said she was feeling pressurised and couldn’t cope up with the situation, hence, surrendered.She was also influenced with the state’s rehabilitation policy for Maoists and decided to give up arms to join the mainstream to live a peaceful life. Meanwhile, Maoists in Sukma district of Bastar division torched two vehicles engaged in bridge construction work on Saturday. A tractor and a pick-up van were torched when they were parked on the road side in Chintalnar. Police said that the contractor had not informed the police about such a construction going on in the region and should have asked for security. The region is dominated by Maoists and construction work of a bridge was going on near Chintalnar-Morpalli. The labourers said that group of Maoists came and asked them to stop working before flaming up the diesel tank of vehicles. TNN
