Wanted Maoist commander, wife with bounty 5 lakh each surrender

Raipur: A senior Maoist commander and his wife surrendered before Indo-Tibetan Border Police in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district in Chhattisgarh on Thursday. Both carried a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh each.The Maoist commander was heading the Left Wing Extremist group's ‘press unit' and Chhattisgarh police had declared a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information that led to the arrest of the Naxalite Pawan Tulavi alias Maling, 37, said Deepak Jha, inspector general of police Rajnandgaon range.The police official said that Tulavi and his wife surrendered before ITBP and district police."Tulavi joined the Maoist ranks in 2008 and worked as teacher in its 'Marh (Abujhmarh)' division between 2013 and 2019. He was then promoted as an area committee member of the Maoists in 2016 and continuously worked as the Marh division press unit commander since 2020 for issuing statements to the media on the organisation's behalf," said a statement issued by IG Jha.Tulavi's wife Payem Oyam, 27, hails from Bijapur district and had been actively working with the Indravati Area Committee of the Maoist ranks since 2011, said the police officials.
