Wall collapse in Chhattisgarh's Korea district kills 2
BILASPUR: A man and a woman died and two other sustained injuries in an incident of a wall collapse in Baikunthpur, the district headquarter of Korea in north Chhattisgarh, about 230 km from here, on Monday afternoon. The dead and the injured are constructions workers, who were working on an under-construction building when the mishap occurred. The injured are being treated at the district hospital, while the dead succumbed to injuries on the way while being shifted to Bilaspur for furtherer treatment.
According to official sources the mishap occurred near the bus stand at Baikunthpur, where the victims were working on an under-construction building. The dead have been identified as Suresh (30), who was working as a mason on the site and Mankunwar (35), a lady construction worker. Both were residents of village Umjhar, about 15 km from the district headquarter of Korea.
The injured include Mohar Sai and Hira Singh, who are being treated at the district hospital at Baikunthpur. Hira Singh has suffered a fracture in his leg in the incident, while Mohar Sai has sustained minor injuries.
According to sources the mishap occurred when the victims were working on an under-construction building. As they were working an old kuccha wall, about 20 inches in width and about 12 feet in height, near the construction site suddenly caved in and the victims were trapped in the rubble underneath. Suresh and Mankunwar, who had sustained critical injuries in the mishap, along with other two injured persons were rushed to thr district hospital. Suresh and Makunwar were referred to Bilaspur for further treatment.
They both succumbed to injuries on the way, near Khadgawan, about 30 km from Baikunthpur.
The district police are investigating the matter.
