Two Maoists killed in encounter in Bastar's Bijapur, operation still on
RAIPUR: Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district of Bastar division on Wednesday, with arms and explosives recovered from the site.
The exchange of fire broke out in the dense forests of Bijapur’s south-western region after security forces launched a search operation based on intelligence about presence of Maoists. Officials said the joint team of security personnel came under attack around 3 pm, triggering intermittent gunfire that continued through the afternoon.
Police officials confirmed that during the operation, the bodies of two Maoists were recovered. Security forces also seized a .303 rifle, a BGL (barrel grenade launcher), explosive material, and other Maoist-related items from the spot.
Senior officers maintained that the exact location of the operation and the number of personnel deployed could not be disclosed at this stage due to operational sensitivity.
“The operation is still underway, and our priority is ensuring the safety of the forces on the ground,” an official statement said.
A more detailed account of the encounter, including the identities of the slain Maoists, is expected once the operation concludes.
The recovery of weapons, particularly a grenade launcher, points to the Maoists’ continued efforts to target security forces in the Bastar region.
