Two kids of a family drown in Bilaspur check dam

Raipur: Two children in Bilaspur died after drowning at a check dam in the Arpa river on Saturday. Police said that two children—Poonam Sahu, 12, resident of Samdil village and Devendra Sahu, 6, resident of Kota —are relatives. They had gone to their maternal uncle’s house in Laripara village for summer vacation. Their uncle took Devendra, Poonam and Devendra’s elder brother, 8, for a bath around 11.30 am on Saturday. He told Devendra and Poonam to wait for him on the river banks until he takes a bath.While he was taking a bath at a certain distance in the river, Devendra entered into the water at the check dam and slipped into the deep. Seeing Devendra drowning, Poonam jumped to his rescue but got trapped. On return, their uncle was shocked to see Devendra and Poonam missing. He immediately searched for them and found the body of the duo, said Kota police.TNN
