RAIPUR: Two people were killed while four injured in separate accidents in Raipur on Sunday. The accident took place near Magneto mall when three people going towards Avanti Vihar, were run over by a speeding four-wheeler, crushing two and leaving one severely injured.
Police said it is a clear case of violation of traffic norms as the four-wheeler driver was drunk and those on two-wheeler were riding triple.

The deceased used to work at a roadside dhaba and were returning home at around 1.30 am when the incident took place. The driver of the other vehicle, Akash Verma, who hails from Mandir Hasaud, has been arrested by Telibandha police. A case of over-speeding and drunk driving registered against him.
In another accident, a car driver hit three people on Ring Road near Kushalpur square. Police said the driver, who was drunk, had jumped the signal. As per police records, of 1,757 accidents in Raipur district, 374 had died and 1,242 injured till October this year. Raipur contributes to 16.4 % of total road accidents in Chhattisgarh.
According a report by transport research wing of ministry of road transport and highways, Chhattisgarh contributes to 2.8% of road accidents and 2.5 % of deaths on road in country and ranks among top 13 states with maximum road accidents. State contributes to 2.5 % of injured people in accidents.
The report says, in 2013, Chhattisgarh ranked tenth in the total number of 13,657 road accidents and accounted for a share of 2.8% in the country.
