Treat juvenile crimes sensitively, says ADGP

RAIPUR: Police Headquarters (Crime Investigation Department) on Wednesday organized a two-day training programme for select 80 police officials as trainers for

prevention of juvenile crimes

in state, at police transit hall.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) R K Vij said in his address to the trainee police officials that police officers should not see children indulged in criminal activities as criminals. He advised police officers to deal with crimes committed by children or crimes committed against children with sensitive and serious approach, because common people closely observe the action taken by police.

Talking about the objective of this programme organized in association with

UNICEF

Raipur, Vij said that police officials should be well-aware of the laws made by Central Government and State Government for prevention of juvenile crimes, especially the provisions of juvenile crimes under POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act. All the SPs of state have been directed to inspect the juvenile observation homes in their districts from time to time.

Chairman of Child Welfare Committee Rajendra Nirala and Secretary District Legal Service Authority Umesh Upadhyay informed in detail about the provision of financial support, protection and compensation for victim children under Juvenile Justice Act.

The training programme was attended by Assistant Inspector General Police Puja Agrawal, police officials of all the districts and Child Rights Cell In-charge of Police Headquarters Shraddha Pathak and Susheel Choubey, and officials-employees were also present.
