Torrential rain inundate roads, alert for heavy rain issued in Raipur

Raipur: Torrential rain in many districts of the state were witnessed from Thursday evening as monsoon activities continue with full swing in Chhattisgarh. Due to heavy rains, flood-like situation emerged in Bilaspur. After three consecutive days of showers and rains in the last few days, water level has started rising slightly, bringing relief to the state and improving water situation here. So far there has been more than 820 mm of rainfall across the state, the weather expert told TOI. The meteorological department had issued an alert of heavy rain in Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh, Raipur, Gariaband, Bastar, Kondagaon, Dantewada, Sukma, Kanker, Bijapur and Narayanpur districts.

In Raipur, it remained partly cloudy during the day on Friday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 23.7 degrees Celsius, one degree less than normal, said weather expert H.P Chandra. Showers that started on Thursday evening continued intermittently till night. Then the torrential rain, which started at around 11 pm, continued till 1.30 am. Roads were inundated and rivers started overflowing at many places including Old Bus Stand, Shrikant Verma Marg, Vidyanagar, Vinoba Nagar, Vyapar Vihar, Agyeya Nagar, Mangala, Torwa, Bandhwapara, Mopka of Sarkanda. Due to heavy rain on Thursday afternoon, various areas of the city — including Telibandha, Jaistambh Chowk, Kota, Saraswati Nagar, Purani Basti, Ashok Nagar, Avanti Vihar, Gogaon, Narmadapara, Professor Colony, Jalvihar Colony, Purani Basti area — were submerged in water.A low-pressure area is located over the northwest Bay of Bengal and west-central Bay of Bengal. With this, the cyclic cyclonic circulation of upper air extends up to 7.6 km height. It is likely to become stronger in the coming days and reach Odisha and Chhattisgarh in the next three days. The monsoon trough is located at mean sea level near Bikaner, Tikamgarh, Daltonganj, Digha, and then towards the southeast till the centre of low pressure. An upper air cyclonic circulation extended up to 0.9 km height over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, a warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers at one or two places in the state.There has been heavy rain in many places including Bilaspur, Korba, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh. Light to moderate rain has been recorded in Raipur, Durg, Bastar division, and in Rajnandgaon.

Heavy rains likely in Hyderabad for two days, IMD issues yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, Medchal, and Rangareddy due to the possibility of thunderstorms in the next two days. A new low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, along with a north-south trough, could result in rainfall in north and east Telangana. On Wednesday, overcast skies were observed in Hyderabad, with some parts of the city experiencing rainfall. The yellow alert also extends to several other districts in Telangana.

Heavy rain hits water supply in Dholpur

Water supply in Dholpur, Rajasthan has been disrupted due to heavy rainfall causing power supply issues. The Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) could not operate the pumps, resulting in a shortage of water for the past few days. However, the situation is gradually improving and normalcy is expected to be restored by Wednesday. Despite the water shortage, the impact on consumption has been relatively low due to the heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains may lash Vid for 2 days

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Vidarbha for the next two days. The increase in rainfall activity and intensity is expected from Wednesday, and an orange alert has been issued for several districts. Citizens have been advised to stay alert and safe during heavy rainfall and lightning, and to avoid driving on flooded roads. The monsoon is expected to withdraw from Vidarbha by the end of September.
