RAIPUR: Three Maoists, including a militia commander, have been shot dead in encounters with security forces in Bastar's Bijapur and Kanker districts.

In Bijapur, district police and district reserve guards personnel set out on March 14 to intercept a band of 20-25 Maoists believed to be on the move in the forests of Hingmeta, right next to the Maharashtra border.

The next evening, the forces challenged the Maoists and an encounter broke out around 5pm.

After the guns fell silent, police found two dead Maoists. In Kanker, the uniformed body of a Maoist was recovered after a gunfight broke out a few kilometres from Koyelibeda police station on Saturday.
