Raipur: The Chhattisgarh govt has informed the high court that it has set up a high-level draft committee and begun consultations to amend the Kolahal Niyantran Adhiniyam, 1985, as part of efforts to address noise pollution. Hearing a suo motu PIL, HC has sought a detailed progress report by May 6, as the state moves towards finalising the proposed changes.
A division benchcomprisingChief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal noted that the state government has constituted a draft committee to examine suggestions and prepare draft amendments for the Act. This follows a high-level consultative process involving divisional commissioners,inspectorsgeneral of police, collectors, and superintendents of police.
HC has now sought a progress report from the Chief Secretary before the next date of hearing.
