RAIPUR: In less than two weeks since the government ordered reopening of schools, as many as six students and a teacher has tested Covid positive in a private school of Koriya on Tuesday.
The school has been shut down for next one week. The district administration has directed the private schools to arrange facility of thermal screening in schools to ensure monitoring on the spread.
Talking to TOI, Koriya collector SN Rathore said that contact tracing revealed that these students contracted infection from a class 9th student, who was tested positive on Sunday.
Following which, mass testing was conducted and five students of class 11th and a staff teacher at Saraswati Vidhyalaya school in Manendragarh has been tested Covid positive. Students of class 10th and 12th have been reported negative.
District education officer Sanjay Gupta said that the primary positive student had no Covid symptoms but when entire family was found Covid positive then the health department alerted the school education department with student’s details. After this, the school was roped in for screening.
In past five days, teachers has been found Covid positive in Sainik School of Ambikapur and Yugantar Public School in Rajnandgaon. Though the school wasn’t opened, the staff resided on school campus and further decision to reopen school for children would be taken accordingly, said the government officials.
