Showers bring respite from heat in several dists of state

Raipur: Chhattisgarh had a slight relief from the sweltering weather on Thursday as various districts, including Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg, witnessed rainfall. Similar weather conditions may prevail on June 23 and 24.
As a result of the rain, temperatures dropped, providing relief to the people. Even Raipur experienced cool winds. The minimum temperatures recorded were 22.6 degrees Celsius in Bastar, 23.1 degrees Celsius in Kawardha, 25.3 degrees Celsius in Raipur, 26.4 degrees Celsius in Raigarh, and 25 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon.
According to the meteorological department, the monsoon is advancing in neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh, and conditions are favourable for its further progress. A cyclone has also formed in the Bay of Bengal, bringing ample moisture to the state. Rainfall exceeding three cm was recorded in Kusmi and Rajnandgaon, while Makdi, Narayanpur, Saraipali, and Sarangarh received two cm each. Gariaband, Devbhog, Mainpur, Barmakela, and Chhura received one cm of rain each. Light rain occurred in Bilaspur, Pendrarod, and many other places
On Thursday, clouds will be seen circling in some districts, including Surajpur, Balrampur, Surguja, Kabirdham, Bemetara, Raipur, Mahasamund, Raigad, and Kondagaon, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
State meteorologist H.P. Chandra informed TOI that rain is expected in the coming two to three days in districts such as Raipur, Dhamtari, Durg, Mahasamund, Janjgir, Raigarh, Korba, and Bijapur in the Bastar division. There are also chances of rain in Balrampur Surguja. These districts may witness rainfall on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as well.
