Sex clip row: Journalist Vinod Verma sent to 3 days police custody

RAIPUR: A court in the capital of Chhattisgarh on Sunday remanded senior Journalist Vinod Verma to police custody for three days for investigation into the case registered against him in connection with the the sex video clip case purportedly involving a state minister.
Verma, who was arrested from his Ghaziabad residence on Friday, was produced before the court of judicial magistrate class one S K Tripathi who heard the counsel of the accused and the police.

The police had sought five days remand for carrying out further investigations.
Appearing for the senior journalist, his counsel Satish Verma argued that the manner in which the police took undue interest and took action in haste clearly indicated that the police is acting under pressure of the state government. He said that the police did not took similar swift action in the Antagarh by-poll tape scandal and even in Bastar maoist attack. He reiterated that the police is under pressure and often there are disputes between state Congress president and the chief minister.
The journalist's counsel also argued that Vinod Verma has been falsely implicated in the case for obvious reasons. He possesses a pen drive. "The CDs, which is being talked about, belongs to the police”, he argued.
The court granted three days police remand with a direction to allow his relatives to meet him and also to ensure his security.
