RAIPUR: A Russian woman tourist created a ruckus on Raipur's VIP Road in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday after hitting a scooter with her car, injuring three youths riding the scooter. The woman was in an inebriated condition.
The three injured youths were rushed to state-run Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital at 1:04 am on Thursday.
However, the injured youths – identified as Neelkamal Sahu, 18, Arun Sahu, 27, and Lalit Chandel, 25 – left the hospital after some time without medical advice, according to the hospital spokesperson who told TOI that this is called LAMA (Left Against Medical Advice) in medical terms.
Following the accident on VIP Road, when people stopped the car and the police arrived at the scene, the woman created a scene.
By Thursday evening, the woman was detained at Telibandha police station. When asked, the police officials told TOI that they are carrying out necessary action and a case will be registered soon.
The police refused to disclose the identity of the Russian woman and said that she is a tourist. The car the woman was travelling in had "Govt of India" written on it and she was seen arguing with the police in the circulated video and photos.
The incident happened around 12.30 at night. According to the police, the car belonged to a public prosecutor of DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) who lives in Shanti Nagar area, Raipur, according to the police.
According to information, the govt lawyer and the foreign woman were heavily drunk during the incident. Both were going out of the pub to get cigarettes. Telibandha police station in-charge Narendra Mishra said that a case has been registered against the accused for driving at a high speed and negligently causing an accident.
After the medical report, a section of drink and drive will also be added to it. At present, the injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital and the car has been confiscated.
