Raman Singh, laid the foundation stone for 50-seats of medical college, with a 300-bed hospital, in his home constituency, Rajnandgaon. Once completed, this would be the sixth government medical college, including AIIMS, Raipur, in the state.
According to officials, the medical college would be constructed on a 25-acre land at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
At present, there are 400 medical seats in the state-run medical colleges at Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Raigarh. The number of seats at AIIMS, Raipur has also gone up to 100 from this academic year. The breakup of the existing MBBS seat in the state is - Raipur (150), Bilaspur (100), Jagdalpur (100), Raigarh (50) and AIIMS (100).
