The hospital attached to the medical college was also the only referral hospital in the state then. The college has also planned to organize an Anand Milind night on December 28 at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. Playback singers Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet Bhattacharya would be giving their performances. Vividh Bharati anchor Kamal Sharma would be the programme anchor.
Talking to TOI, Dr Vivek Chaudhary, hospital medical superintendent, said over 2,000 doctors including NRI doctors have registered themselves for the celebration. Pt JNM Medical College came into existence on September 9, 1963 when the college was started with 60 students in a small OPD block of Ayurvedic College. Later it was shifted to the new building on Jail road in 1976 which was inaugurated by the then chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shyama Charan Shukla.
At the time of inception, the institute had an intake strength of 60 students. Now 150 students are getting admitted into its MBBS course every year. At present 62 students are studying in post graduate courses (MD/MS) of the institute and 21 two-year diploma courses in various departments. As the hospital attached to it is only a referral hospital in Chhattisgarh, more than 1,000 patients reach its out-patients section every day.
On an average more than 120 patients are admitted in the indoor wards of the hospital daily. Alumni of the institute include several physicians of national and international repute. According to Dr Chatterjee, around 3,000 delegates would be taking part in the celebration, which include former deans of the institute.
