RAIPUR: The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chhattisgarh has been selected as one of the five venues to host matches for the prestigious 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 29th to October 26th.
Sources within the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS) have confirmed that Raipur will be among the cities hosting the 50-over matches. However, the official fixture for the highly anticipated tournament is yet to be released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport's global governing body.
Joining Raipur as host cities are Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Mullanpur (Punjab), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). These five venues will provide the stage for the world's top women's cricket teams to compete for the coveted title.
A total of eight formidable teams will participate in the tournament. Defending champions Australia, who secured their record-extending seventh title in 2022, have directly qualified. They will be joined by cricketing powerhouses England, hosts India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, who also gained direct qualification based on their ICC Women's Championship standings.
The final two spots in the eight-team lineup will be determined through a qualifying tournament held from April 9th to 19th in Pakistan. Six nations – Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Thailand, Scotland, and Ireland – will battle it out for these remaining berths. Notably, should Pakistan qualify for the World Cup, their matches will be held at neutral venues, as per a prior agreement regarding India and Pakistan hosting each other in ICC events.
The 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup marks the 13th edition of this esteemed global competition. India is set to host the tournament for the fourth time, having previously staged the events in 1978, 1997, and 2013.
An agreement reached on December 19th, 2024, between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and subsequently updated by the ICC, established the protocol for India and Pakistan hosted matches at ICC events during the 2024–2027 rights cycle. This agreement confirms that matches between India and Pakistan hosted by either nation at ICC events will be played at neutral venues. However, as Pakistan has not directly qualified for the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup and is participating in the qualifying tournament, the decision on neutral venues for their matches will only be finalized if they successfully secure a place in the main event.
