Raigarh police
in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday busted an
inter-state gang
dealing in fake currency, with the arrest of three persons and confiscation of
fake currency
worth Rs 6,58,500 from their possession, besides Rs 81,000 cash. The accused used to procure fake currency from Ranchi in Jharkhand.
According to Raigarh police, the gang was busted by crime branch and City Kotwali Raigarh police. Raigarh crime branch had received a tip-off on May 14, 2016, that a man - wearing a pair of blue trousers and a red shirt and carrying a black bag - was travelling in Shalimar Kurla Express, carrying fake currency.
Police kept a watch over the man, who alighted at Raiigarh station. The man went inside the city and met another man and handed him a packet. All this while police had been following him. As the man handed over the packet to another, police arrested both. Police recovered 98500 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination from their possession. Both were produced before the court and were taken into remand.
During interrogation the accused confessed to have been involved in business of fake currency for several years now. They further informed that they had been spreading fake currency in Raigarh, Bilaspur, Takhatpur, Mungeli and Katni in Madhya Pradesh.
They said that they used to buy fake currency at half the price from Ranchi in Jharkhand. They also said that Amit Sahu, a resident of Mungeli, was also involved with them in the racket.
Police formed two teams. One team was sent to Mungeli to arrest Sahu, while another was sent to Ranchi from where another consignment of fake currency worth Rs 4.60 lakh and Rs 81,000 cash in real currency were recovered. The other consignment was recovered from the house of the accused arrested from Raigarh while receiving the consignment of fake currency. He has been identified as Virendra Pramanik.
Police have registered cases under Section 489 B and 489 C of IPC (offence against currency) against the accused and are investigating further.
This is the second such gang that has been busted in Chhattisgath. One such gang was busted by Urajpur police in north Chhattisgarh in the third week of April.
