Police said the accused is a history-sheeter and has committed rapes in the past.

The daughter has told police that he raped her at home on Oct 19 and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about it.

Koriya SP Suraj Singh Parihar said that the accused raped his niece on Oct 21 after taking her to the forest on the pretext of gathering firewood. He threatened her as well.

The two cousins were so traumatized that they dare not go to police though they confided in each other.

Eventually, they mustered the courage to approach police on Saturday. Their accounts of the sexual assaults were horrifying, said police. The accused got wind of it and fled.

Police realised they had to get the serial rapist back behind bars quickly and sent out multiple teams after him. The accused wasn't using his phone, which made it even more difficult to track his movements.

Police activated their information network and caught him in a forest in neighbouring Korba district on Sunday. He has been charged under Pocso Act and BNS.

The accused was produced in court and sent to jail. He was already serving time in Ambikapur jail for a brutal rape.
The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault
