Raipur: Acting on the complaint of a man who claimed that the cow he purchased gave less milk than what the seller had advertised, a consumer court in Chhattisgarh ordered the latter to return the money and slapped a Rs 10,000 fine on it. Dinesh Chaudhary, who sold the animal, was held guilty of cheating by the consumer court and was told to pay Rs 10,000 over and above the transaction amount of Rs 30,000.

The matter was brought to the Bilaspur consumer forum by Ramesh Kashyap from Patgawan village in February 2015. In his complaint, Kashyap claimed that he had purchased a Jersey cow from Chaudhary for Rs 30,000. At the time of selling the cow, the Chaudhary claimed that it would produce 13 litres of milk.

The complainant also produced medical certificates which stated that the cow was suffering from a disease which has affected her milk productivity. The disease was incurable, said the medical report prepared by a vet. The cow failed to produce even 3 litres of milk in a day, charged Kashyap before the court.

Giving its final decision on the complaint on Tuesday, the consumer court of Bilaspur found Dinesh Chaudhary guilty of furnishing wrong information. The court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the seller, and an additional Rs 2,000 as cost of litigation.
