: A Naxal was gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Sukma

The gun-battle took place on Monday evening in the forests of Darel-Markaguda villages in Chintalnar area when a team of CoBRA was out on an anti-Naxal operation, deputy inspector

general

of police (anti-Naxal operation) Sundarraj P said.

The CoBRA team was cordoning off Darel-Markaguda villages, about 500km from Raipur, when it came under fire from a group of ultras, triggering the gun-battle, he said.

The ultras fled into the forests, soon after.

During a search of the encounter spot, the body of a Maoist was recovered. One muzzle loading gun, medicines and some other items was also recovered from the site, he said. The slain ultra was identified as Rawa Bhime, a member of the Kumadtong janmiltia (a wing of Maoists), the DIG said.
