Mobile torches used for deliveries at health center in gloomy crisis
A mostly non-functional solar panel adds to the power issues, leading to the spoilage of vaccines stored in refrigerators. The hospital's lab tests have come to a halt, with typhoid tests stopped for the past three months and a broken CBC machine making it impossible to properly treat patients.
The health center sees over 150 patients a day, most of whom have fever or malaria. It is the rainy season when several patients turn upto the CHC with complaints of seasonal diseases.
But due to the electricity issues, both doctors and patients suffer. Despite health minister Shyam Jaiswal's orders to improve conditions, the center remains in poor shape. Filth and overgrown plants are widespread, and two out-of-order generators have not been replaced.
After the information of the suffering and woes reached the health department, it has issued orders to install new generators at the community health center.
Dr. Chalapathi Rao, the BMO of the CHC, confirmed that while malaria testing continues, typhoid testing is on hold, also admitting that some equipment is out of order and that issues have been reported to higher authorities.
