NEW DELHI: A 10-year-old girl was injured when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists went off in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police reported on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening on the outskirts of Timmapuram village under the Chintalnar police station area, according to a senior police official.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the girl accidentally stepped on the pressure IED, triggering the explosion, the official stated.
The girl sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.

Police noted that civilians have previously fallen victim to similar traps set by Maoistsin the area.
In the neighbouring Bijapur district, two policemen were injured on Sunday when a pressure IED planted by Maoists exploded. Additionally, a CRPF jawan was injured in a similar incident on Saturday.
On 10 January, a villager was killed and three others injured in two separate incidents involving pressure IEDs in the Orchha area of Narayanpur district.
On 6 January, Maoists detonated an IED in Bijapur district, destroying a vehicle and killing eight police personnel along with their civilian driver.
