Man sets wife ablaze, both suffer burns

RAIPUR: A couple in Kushalpur area suffered burns after a heated argument when the man allegedly tried to set his wife ablaze on Tuesday. According to Purani Basti police, condition of the woman, who has sustained about 70% burns is stated to be critical and was admitted at BR Ambedkar Hospital along with husband, whose condition is out of danger.
The man identified as Ganesh Chauhan is a Patwari in Boriyakala neighbouring village.Neighbours at their Kushalpur residence said that the couple had been arguing and within half an hour they heard screams from inside and noticed smoke oozing out of their home.
As per preliminary investigation, when the dispute went on, enraged Chauhan poured kerosene oil on his wife Usha Chauhan in a fit of rage, and set her ablaze. As the fire was intense, Chauhan also sustained 35% burns.
While Usha wasn’t in any condition to give statement to police, Ganesh was too shocked to speak anything. Police have lodged FIR against Ganesh under Section 307 of the IPC.
