Raipur: Two minors, including a five-year-old girl and another shepherd were killed in a lightning strike in Koriya and GPM districts of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. In another lightening strike in Balod district, 28 goats died when they took shelter from rain under a tree.
The first incident took place in Jaiti village of Janakpur when lightening struck the house of a family and Ukesh Raidas, 10, and the girl,
Muskan Verma, 5, died.
District administration have assured of compensation to the kin of deceased children as the village is gloomy and mourning.
While a shepherd who was out for cattle grazing in Basantpur region of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, took shelter under a tree when lightening struck and he died of severe burns. In another region of Balod district at Daundilohara, the goats standing under a tree to save themselves from rain, were struck with lightening, though their shepherd somehow escaped.
Though monsoon is yet to arrive Chhattisgarh, the premonsoon showers have brought light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightening in some places of state. According to weathermen, two systems have formed over Uttar Pradesh to Assam and another from Bihar to Andhra Pradesh, which would bring rainfall in Chhattisgarh and it is expected to bring respite from sweltering heat.
