Raipur: A Maoist in his twenties surrendered before Dantewada police on Monday, saying he was guilt-ridden after being involved in the murder of three villagers. He found such killings inhuman and decided to give up arms, say police.
Police identified him as 25-year-old Manglu Poyam, militia member of Indravati Area Committee, who had at least six cases of murder against him.
He was also accused of planting IEDs and torching vehicles..
Manglu surrendered before Dantewada SP Siddharth Tiwari, saying he was done with the “hollow and inhuman ideologies of Maoists, which only drives him towards violence and an uncertain life”. He wanted to lead a peaceful life which he hopes to get under the security of Chhattisgarh state’s rehabilitation policy for surrendered cadres, said police.
Manglu is alleged to have murdered three villages between 2014 and 2019 in Bijapur, accusing them of working as police informers.
