RAIPUR: The five policemen martyred in Tuesday’s Maoist blast were given a guard of honour at Kumarpara security camp after which their mortal remains were transported to their native villages for last rites. DGP DM Awasthi couldn't attend the event due to a technical snag in his helicopter, which led to an emergency landing.

The condition of the 12 jawans injured in the IED attack is stable, say sources. Seven of the more seriously injured ones are being treated at a private hospital in Raipur. The other five are at a

Narayanpur hospital.

Bastar range IG P Sundarraj, PCC chief Mohan Markam and

MLA Chandan Kashyap

were among those who paid tributes at the Kumarpara security camp. DGP Awasthi and DG-anti-Naxal operations Ashok Juneja were also scheduled to attend it but soon after their chopper took off, it ran into technical trouble.

Senior officers will visit Naryanpur in a day or two to plan further operations in the light of the IED ambush.

Chhattisgarh home minister

Tamradwaj Sahu condemned the Maoist attack and expressed grief over the martyrdom of the brave jawans — head constable Jailal Uikey, constables Karan Dehari (driver), Sevak Salaam, Pavan Mandavi and Vijay Patel.
