RAIPUR: A 36-year-old government school headmaster was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly molesting girl students in Sarora area of the state capital, police said.
Urla station house officer (SHO) Meena Choudhary said the incident came to light after minors studying in government high school lodged a complaint against
Arvind Tiwari, who hails from Khairagarh and is a resident of DD Nagar.
Students, all aged 16 years, alleged that the accused, who teaches English, frequently misbehaved with them and indulged in indecent acts during dance classes, the SHO said.
Police said complainants were mostly students of Class IX. Going by past records, Tiwari is said to have got terminated as teacher from a school in Antagarh region and had been working as principal under Shikshakarmi grade 1 category ever since.
According to students, Tiwari had a troubled relationship with another women teacher in school, who helped victimized girls report the matter to police. The girls first informed their parents, who then approached the police, she added.
Tiwari has been booked under IPC section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act-2012, Choudhary said. Investigations are on.
