RAIPUR: A rare and unusual incident was reported from Junwani Police Lines in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district headquarters, where a bear reportedly entered the premises of a Shiv temple and rang the bell.
A video showing the bear inside the temple has gone viral on social media, sparking curiosity and concern among local residents.
Forest department officials said they are verifying the authenticity of the footage and have advised people in the area to exercise caution.
Kanker DFO Raunak Goyal noted that the town is surrounded by hills and forests, making bear movements in the area fairly common.
“I have seen the video, but we are yet to trace its source. Until the origin is verified, we cannot confirm the incident. It is possible that the bear, in search of easy food, entered human habitation and reached the temple. Bears usually move around in the early morning or late-night hours,” he said.
Another senior forest officer added that while he could not confirm whether the video was indeed from Kanker, sightings of bears are frequent in the district.
