Raipur: Passengers in the Raigarh-Bilaspur MEMU local train noticed smoke coming out of the engine when the train was about to reach Kharasia station from Raigarh on Wednesday causing panic. According to railways, the incident took place at around 9.15 am on Wednesday when the train was about to arrive at Kharsia station. Passengers waiting for the train on the platform saw the smoke and called for the fire brigade.
The incident was reported to government railway police (GRP) and railway protection force (RPF), and the forces immediately reached the platform to control the situation. It took them nearly half an hour to bring the situation under control.
The train then departed with another engine, said RPF inspector Rajesh Verma. He said that there was a short circuit in the vacuum circuit breaker which led to the fire. The railway officials said that it was a minor fire incident and did not cause much damage to engine. TNN
