Family complains of harassment by cops

Raipur: A family of Bilaspur has alleged harassment against a sub-inspector and constable of Bilaspur police. The incident pertained to a complaint that police allegedly barged into family’s home when they were hosting an engagement ceremony and accused of selling illegal liquor. When the family members objected, they faced allegations and women members of the family were manhandled. The scene became chaotic and the groom’s family left the venue without performing the engagement rituals. The neighbours and other locals started gathering at the location and protested cops’ behaviour. There was additional force called to create pressure among the people, the family members say. The family alleged that police officials pulled the hair of the women and misbehaved with women and “snatched away” their mobile phones when they tried to record the event. Meanwhile, police claim that they had received an input that Suresh Lahre of Billiband village was selling illegal liquor at weekly market and was hiding it at his shop and home. A police team from Kota reached his residence on Sunday evening when he was busy in the engagement function. Police say that entire family is involved in the crime of selling illegal liquor and they deliberately tried to create a scene to prevent the police from checking. The officials said that the women were trying to destroy the evidence at the location. The family has demanded an action against the cops.
