NEW DELHI: At least eight Maoists have been killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
The gunfight began at around 8.30am in the forests of the Gangaloor police station area, where a joint team of security forces was conducting an anti-Naxalite operation, the official stated.
He added that intermittent exchanges of fire were still ongoing, and further details were awaited.
Personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) are involved in the operation.
