Raipur: An earthquake of 4.3 magnitude hit parts of Koriya district in Chhattisgarh on Monday morning. There were no reports of any damage to property or person.
The epicentre of the earthquake was from Baikunthpur, about 17 kilometers from Koriya. The Koriya district is located about 300 kilometers from the state capital.
The National Centre for Seismology tweeted informing, “Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred on July 11 around 8.10 am with latitude 23.36, longitude 82.44, and depth 10 kilometers.”
The meteorologists in Surguja said that the epicentre of the quake was 17 kilometers from Baikunthpur in west-north direction.
The exact location where tremors were felt were Chindadand and Sonhat in Baikunthpur. The ground shook for about two seconds and people got confused if it was a quake or blast at a mining site.
Officials said that there was no report of casualty or damage to houses though an earthquake of this degree has the capacity to damage huts or mud houses. They said that situation was being monitored.
Two hours after the earthquake in Koriya district, National Center for Seismology tweeted about another quake in Manipur stating, “Earthquake of 3.5 magnitude occurred at around 10.06 am in Kamjong in Manipur.”
Ambikapur region had witnessed light tremors of 3.1 magnitude on March 16.
