RAIPUR: Amid political temperatures high in Chhattisgarh with the Bhanupratappur assembly bypoll campaign, Congress has lost the Gunderdehi town panchayat in Balod district to no-trust vote. The no-confidence motion passed following a cross-voting by a Congress councillor.

Congress MLA Kunwar Singh Nishad had spearheaded the allegations of corruption against the nagar panchayat president. Congress wanted to change the panchayat president, but it ended up losing the motion due to cross voting. BJP member Ranu Sonkar will continue as the president of the panchayat.

Out of the 15 councillors, 12 exercised their franchise. Seven voted in favour of the BJP president while five votes went in favour of the Congress.

After the outcome of the no-trust vote Balod district BJP president Krishna Kant Pawar said that the results of the poll have exposed the Congress. “This no-confidence motion was brought through as part of the ruling party’s conspiracy,” he said.

Former MLA and BJP leader Rajendra Kumar said that the victory was certain. “Our BJP corporators were misled by some Congressmen who brought a no-confidence motion, after which they were explained, everyone understood and again when the floor test was held, we got the majority. What is more important is that we earned the faith of Congress councillor,” he said.
