Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday met
senior journalist Vinod Verma
at the prison where he is lodged following his arrest in connection with a sleaze CD case, purportedly involving a minister.
PCC chief, who spoke to Verma for about an hour, however, refused to divulge the nature of his talks with the journalist. Baghel, who was accompanied by a couple of Congress leaders, evaded replies to questions but just maintained that chief minister Raman Singh had already proclaimed the sex CD as fake and fabricated, but the CBI has been asked to probe it.
Vinod Verma was picked up by the Raipur police from his residence in Ghaziabad within 12 hours after one Prakash Bajaj lodged a complaint with the police here claiming that some unidentified person had called up on his landline number and tried to extort money claiming that a sex CD of his Aaka would be released if he failed to pay up. Verma was arrested from Ghaziabad and the police claimed that they have seized 500 copies of sex CD from his possession.
State Congress general secretary Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that
Vinod Verma was arrested due to political vengeance. He alleged that police had planted CDs at his home in Ghaziabad and recorded its recovery which has been revealed through a TV footage which showed someone carrying a box to his home just before his arrest.
A lower court and a sessions court had rejected the bail plea of Vinod Verma, who later moved the high court for bail.
