Civil, Mechanical engineering programmes of govt college Raipur get 3-year NBA extension

RAIPUR: The undergraduate programmes in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Government Engineering College (GEC) Raipur have received a three-year extension of NBA accreditation, valid from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028.

Earlier, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) had approved accreditation for these programmes from the academic year 2023–24 up to June 30, 2025, which was later extended till December 31, 2025. The latest extension reaffirms the college’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing academic quality and excellence in technical education.

Accreditation by the NBA serves as a benchmark of quality assurance and continuous improvement, confirming that an institution’s programmes meet or exceed the prescribed norms and standards set by the regulatory authorities. It also ensures that the curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, and learning outcomes are aligned with industry and global standards.

According to the NBA, accreditation not only validates academic quality but also benefits students, employers, and the broader public by promoting transparency, accountability, and excellence in technical education.

Dr Ajay Kumar Garg, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Government Engineering College Raipur, said, “The purpose and impact of accreditation go far beyond quality assurance. It encourages continuous quality improvement, enhances employability of graduates, improves student enrollment, and facilitates recognition of degrees at the national and international levels. It also motivates faculty to actively participate in academic and institutional development activities.”

Institutional officials noted that the NBA extension will further strengthen GEC Raipur’s position among leading technical institutions, boosting its prospects for research collaboration, student placements, and academic funding.
