Chhattisgarh's Sherjin bags bronze in senior national fencing; girls qualify for Goa National Games

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh’s R S Sherjin bagged the bronze medal in the Epee event of the 33rd Senior National Fencing Championship 2023, played at Pune in Maharashtra from March 24 to 28. With this, he has staked a claim for the national games.

In the individual Epee event, he defeated his Delhi counterpart by 15-1, defeated his Madhya Pradesh counterpart in a nail-biting finish by 15-14 and Punjab fencer by 15-10 to enter the quarter finals. He defeated the hosts team by 15-14 in a close finish to enter the semifinals. However, he lost the semifinal to SSCB fencer by 10-15 to settle for the bronze medal.

Similarly, Chhattisgarh fencers Jyotika Dutta, Monika Sahu, Rupali Sahu and Tulsi Manikpuri have qualified for the Goa National Games in Epee team event.
