Chhattisgarh: Tribal girl abducted, gangraped by three in Kabirdham district

RAIPUR: A 22-year-old tribal girl was allegedly gangraped after getting abducted and assaulted by three men in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district on Tuesday late. The accused are at large and police have registered a case on Wednesday, based on the complaint made by the survivor.

Speaking to TOI, Kabirdham SP Dharmendra Chavai said that as per the survivor, the girl was with her friend on Tuesday night when the duo had an argument, following which, three men arrived at the spot and forcibly took her on the bike to the nearby forest. They took turns to rape her and fled the spot.


Without divulging much information, SP said that a search was launched to nab the accused.

According to police, the survivor had gone for a nightstay at her friend’s place in Ghothia area, and had walked out of in anger after the argument. She was spotted by three men one of whom were an acquaintance. He allegedly forced her on the bike, along with others, subjected her to sexual assault. Around 3 am, the girl was dropped near Kawardha bus stand.

The survivor approached the City Kotwali police station in the morning and narrated her ordeal, following which a case was registered and investigations were launched.

The situation escalated when members of the tribal community locked the main hospital gate, demanding answers from police officials. Community leaders alleged that the police were attempting to cover up the case.

Tribal leader Kamu Baiga accused the police of delay and inaction: “Despite clear allegations that three men were involved in the assault, the police have not been able to track down the accused so far,” he said.

The case has sparked outrage in the region, with locals demanding swift arrests and strict action against the perpetrators.
