RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday announced the state will make Godaan—described as the first film centred on “Gau Mata” (cow)—tax-free, while launching its trailer at the chief minister’s residence office in Raipur.
Sai said his govt was committed to the “protection and promotion” of cattle, pitching the cow as a symbol of spiritual reverence as well as “economic and scientific” value. He said the state had stepped up support for cattle shelters (gaushalas), including raising the per-cow fodder grant from ₹20 to ₹35 and providing financial assistance of ₹25 lakh to gaushalas.
The chief minister also spoke about the setting up of “Godham” to house and care for stray cattle. Stressing the need for wider public awareness around cattle conservation, Sai said organic manure made from cow dung was the base of organic farming, and cinema could help carry “positive messages” to a larger audience.
Produced by Kamdhenu Film Productions, Godaan is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on February 6. Producer-director Vinod Chaudhary was present at the event.
