RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singhdeo has requested the Union Health Minister
Mansukh L Mandaviya to start the process of administering booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine to health workers, frontline workers, immuno-compromised citizens and people above 60 years of age.
In the letter written on Tuesday, Singh Deo said that experts from the country and abroad are certifying that even after the double dose of the vaccine, the level of antibodies is decreasing within six to nine months.
Although the level of safety remains promising in very few cases, hence the need for a booster dose is felt.
He has written that the effect of third and fourth wave is being seen in many countries of the world. Many countries are applying booster doses to their citizens.
Hence, keeping in view the risk of corona infection, Singh deo highlighted the need for booster doses of corona vaccine for health workers, frontline workers, immuno-compromised and people above 60 years of age. The minister has been urged to take an early decision in this regard and issue necessary instructions for booster dose vaccination.
In Chhattisgarh, so far 2.58 crore of doses have been administered, of these 1.7 crore people have taken first dose and 88.14 lakh people have taken both doses of covid vaccine. The infection rate is around 0.16% with 304 active cases across Chhattisgarh.
