and water sources of the state are being revived through the Narva (Nala) Development Scheme for the conservation and recharge of groundwater in Chhattisgarh. The Narva Development Scheme operated in the state is actually a component of Narva, Gurwa, Ghurwa, Bari of Chhattisgarh government's ambitious Suraji village scheme. Rapid treatment of

In the first phase, 1385 Narva (Nala) have been identified for treatment in the state. Out of which 1372 drains are being constructed for the conservation of rainwater by constructing and treating structures like boulder checks, street plugs, brush hoods, percolation tanks, to retain water and improve groundwater level, said WRD official.

In a departments review meeting on Sunday, the WRD officials released the data that in past two years, about 71, 831 structures of various types have been approved to be constructed to conserve rainwater in 1310 drains under Narva (Nala), the major component of Suraji village scheme in Chhattisgarh, out of which 51, 742 structures have been constructed. Currently 9,685 structures are under construction. For almost two years, the positive results of the work being done in the state of Chhattisgarh towards groundwater conservation and recharge are now visible.

The Central government has not only appreciated this campaign to conserve water in Chhattisgarh, but has also felicitated Surajpur and Bilaspur districts with National Water Award. This National Water Award was given to Bilaspur district by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, for the restoration of river water channels and Surajpur district for its remarkable works of water conservation.
