Shubham Vijay Singh Thakur

now stands at third position in BCCI under-23 ranking list, by taking most wickets during Col CK Nayudu Trophy, which concluded on Thursday.

Shubham collected 26 wickets in five matches and eight innings in Col CK Nayudu Trophy. He took highest 10 wickets against Goa and five other teams.

Hailing from Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh, the slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Shubham Singh Thakur started his cricket journey in 2010 without any coach.

Observing his bowling talent in 2013, Bilaspur District Cricket Association picked him up for their flood light and premier league matches.

"Noticing his enthusiasm, Bilaspur District Cricket Association (BDCA) decided to include him in the district team. He played against 2015 world cup team of Afghanistan who played for Bilaspur Premier League matches in 2013 and 2014. After the BPL performance, he got selected for the under-19 team of Chhattisgarh,'' said president, BDCA,Vijay Kesharvani.

During screening for 30 probable under 23 team, Thakur had taken 15 wickets during inter-district matches.

He got selected for the probable of under-23 and also underwent two month training, he added.

P Krishna Kumar, bowling coach of Team Chhattisgarh, told TOI, "When I saw the bowling skills of Shubham, I tapped his potential. During two-month training, we worked on some specific bowling drills and he coped up and overcame the flaws."

He added, "Now he is at third rank in under 23 with 26 wickets. He is just three wickets away from first position, which is commendable. I hope he will get into Ranji team in future."
