Chattisgarh to supply 1000MW of electricity to Telangana

RAIPUR: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for supply of 1000 MW power to Telangana by Chhattisgarh government was signed on Monday in the presence of the chief ministers, K Chandrasekhar Rao and Dr Raman Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said Chhattisgarh has surplus electricity and it would help the neighbouring states facing urgent requirement. He added that the MoU has created a historic and friendly relationship between the two states.
The chief minister informed that the state has written to Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal for setting up a new transmission grid to supply power to Telangana. He said the state will supply power to Telangana from Marwa Thermal power project, which will generate electricity from March 2015.
Thanking the Chhattisgarh government for agreeing to sell power to Telangana, Rao said, “I am thankful to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh for accepting my request to provide 1,000 MW power to Telangana.” He said that Chhattisgarh has progressed a lot in the past fourteen years and Telangana will emulate the Chhattisgarh model to proceed on the path of development. He assured that the two states would also help each other in the field of irrigation.
He said that besides electricity, both the states would also act with mutual cooperation in sectors of irrigation and development. Mentioning the pending proposal of ‘Inchumpalli irrigation Project’, the telangana chief minister said that he will visit the state in near future to discuss this significant project on the Godavari river.
The MoU for electricity supply to Telangana was signed by Aman Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Chhattisgarh Government's Energy Department and SK Joshi, Principal Secretary of Telangana Government's Energy Department. Rao commemorated the contribution of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in formation of Chhattisgarh state. Rao said that people of Chhattisgarh are fortunate that Atal ji gave them the gift of new state, but for Telangana had to undergo a long struggle before it was eventually formed with mutual consent.
Rao said that comparing the three new states created by Atal ji around 14 years ago, Chhattisgarh is marching way ahead on the path of development under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh. He said that Telangana would be developed in view of the development model of Chhattisgarh.
On the occasion, Finance Minister of Telangana E Rajendra, Chhattisgarh Government's Agriculture and Water Resource Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, PWD Housing and Environment Minister Rajesh Munat, chief secretary Vivek Dhand, State Power Regulatory Commission Chairman Narayan Singh, Managing Directors and other Senior Officials of Chhattisgarh State Power Production, Transmission, Distribution Companies were also present.
