Raipur: In a thrilling start to the Senior Men's Vijay Hazare One Day Trophy 2024, Chhattisgarh emerged victorious against Chandigarh in their opening match, winning by 13 runs under the VJD method after poor visibility stopped play.The match, played at Vizianagaram, saw standout performances from both sides. Chandigarh, batting first after Chhattisgarh won the toss and opted to field, posted a daunting total of 322/5 in 50 overs. The innings was powered by a scintillating 152-run knock from Shivam Bhambri, supported by Tushar Joshi (59) and A.K. Kaushik (51*). For Chhattisgarh, M Ravi Kiran and Shashank Singh took two wickets each.In response, Chhattisgarh's chase was anchored by their captain, Amandeep Khare, who played an unbeaten and magnificent innings of 121 runs off 100 balls, smashing 13 boundaries and two sixes. Khare stitched crucial partnerships, including a 104-run stand with Gagandeep Singh (51) and a 93-run collaboration with Sanjeet Desai (54). Shashank Singh also contributed a brisk 32* as Chhattisgarh reached 299/4 in 46.3 overs before bad light halted play.With visibility deteriorating, the VJD method was applied to determine the outcome, declaring Chhattisgarh the winner by 13 runs. Chandigarh's bowlers—Jagjeet Singh, Nikhil, and Hardik—managed a wicket each but could not contain Chhattisgarh's batsmen.This victory marks a promising start for Chhattisgarh in the tournament, with Amandeep Khare's leadership and unbeaten century being the highlight of the game.The Senior Men's Vijay Hazare One Day Trophy, organised by the BCCI, began on Dec 21, 2024, with teams from across the country competing for glory.
