Raipur: Chhattisgarh junior badminton team emerged as champion in the West Zone Badminton Championship organised at Parbhani in Maharashtra. The state team defeated the hosts Maharashtra in the final by 3-2.
In the first men’s singles event, Raunak Chauhan of the visiting team defeated Suvir Pradhan of the hosts team in a three-set match by 21-13, 11-21, 21-18. In girl’s doubles event, Chhattisgarh pair of Tanu Chandra and Hiral Chauhan defeated Maharashtra’s Arti Chougle and Saad Dharmadhikari in straight sets by 21-19, 21-12. Similarly, the visitors defeated the hosts in the mixed doubles event as M V Abhishek and R Shivani outplayed Arya Thakre and Mahak Nayak in straight sets by 21-19, 21-14. The other members of the Chhattisgarh team were Prabhjeet Singh Chhabra, Saurabh Sahu and Shivani Pillai.
Earlier, Chhattisgarh defeated Goa in the quarterfinals by 3-0, Gujarat by 3-2 in the semifinals.
