Raipur: A bride in Chhattisgarh called off her wedding just in time when she found out that the groom had arrived sozzled and was unable to stand steady during the welcome rituals.
The incident took place in Kasdol region of Baloda Bazar district on April 27.
According to the bride's family, the groom was so intoxicated that he could barely stand. The rituals were stopped, and when the bride was informed, she told her family she would not marry such a man.
"When a man cannot stand on his own feet properly on the day of his wedding, how would he fend himself and family," the bride said, justifying her decision.
Her family backed her decision.
The cancellation soon led to a dispute between the two sides. The groom's family alleged that the bride's side held the groom, his father and some relatives hostage, demanding compensation for the wedding expenses.
As tension grew, police teams rushed to fix the matter.
Police said no one was found to have been held hostage and that both sides were engaged in talks over expenses.
