Raipur: Bodies of a couple and their two children, including a seven-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son, were found in a pool of blood at a farm at Kapsada village on Akola road under Kumhari police station limits in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
Prima facie circumstantial evidence indicates a murder which, according to the police, happened on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, said the police.
The body of Bholanath Yadav, 34, was, was found lying outside the house built at the farm while bodies of his wife Naila Yadav, 30, daughter Mukta Yadav and son Pramod Yadav were found lying inside the house.
Police have recovered an axe allegedly used in the crime. The farm is owned by Poonaram Tandon and the victims had been staying here for the last 12 years while taking care of the farm and working as labourers. Some locals saw their bodies and informed the police. Durg Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said.
Cyber and forensic experts were called to the spot. Forensic experts collected fingerprints from the spot while cyber experts examined the CCTV footage, the SP said. Dog squad was also called to the spot.
Pallava said that someone known to the deceased might have committed the offence. “We are exploring different angles such as financial and old enmity. We have also recovered Rs 5 lakh from one of the victim’s relatives but we cannot disclose the name in view of the sensitivity of the case as it may hamper the investigation process. The younger brother of victim Bholanath and his friends had a liquor party on Wednesday evening. However, he has left for Odisha. The victim basically belongs to Odisha’s Bolangir district," said Pallava. He said that a case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is underway.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem, he said. Police have recovered an axe with blood stains from the murder spot and sent it for forensic analysis. An almirah in the house was found open but it was yet to be ascertained if something was missing from it, the official said.
