Bastar’s two villages win in Central govt’s best tourism contest
TNNRaipur: Ministry of tourism has selected two villages of Bastar district as best in two different tourism categories for the 2024 edition of the Best Tourism Village competition.According to a note issued by joint director general from the office of tourism ministry, Dhudmaras village has been selected as one of the best tourism villages in the Adventure Tourism category, while Chitrakote village has been selected in the Community Based Tourism category.The winners will be felicitated on World Tourism Day on Sept 27 in New Delhi.The ministry of tourism organizes the best tourism villages competition to acknowledge a village that best exemplifies a tourism destination which preserves cultural and natural assets, promotes community- based values and lifestyles and has a clear commitment to sustainability in all its aspects— economic, social and environmental.Bastar witnesses heavy footfall during its 75-day long Bastar Dussehra when people from across the state and foreign countries visit the place to feel the essence of the festival in remote regions.During Dussehra, the foreigners prefer a home stay, where they can feel the culture of Bastar. Most of the home stays get booked a month before the festival. The Bastar Dussehra begins from Oct 3. Tourists have already started pouring in and more than 70 percent lodges, hotels and homestay have already been booked.Besides, Chitrakote waterfall, famously called the Niagara falls of India, witnesses lakhs of tourists every year.
