district jail with prisoners preparing seven quintals of vermicompost in the first phase.
The finished vermicompost will be procured by the jail administration itself for use in the nutrition garden inside the jail.
Apart from this, 25 quintals of vermicompost are being prepared in the upcoming days.

said vermicompost manufacturing, mushroom production and other self-employment oriented activities have been started in the jail premises.
Godhan Nyay Yojana is a flagship programme of the Congress government under which cow dung is procured from livestock rearers at a price of rupees two per kilogram and it is used to produce vermicompost for organic farming.
Under the first phase, 40-40 selected prisoners are being trained in vermicompost and nutrition gardens.
The vermicompost is being manufactured by the prisoners through a temporary tank on the premises itself.
Along with this, preparations to plant green vegetables and fruits are also being done with training from the Municipal Council, Balodabazar and officers of the Horticulture Department.
Besides, preparations are underway to install biogas worth Rs.6. 30 lakh by CREDA which will be used for the cooking process.
Plantation around the jail, preparations by the Animal Husbandry Department to plant Napier grass for pasture expansion on the vacant land outside the campus are underway.
Psychiatrist Dr. Rakesh Premi said that by putting prisoners in such training and work, positive improvement occurs in their behaviour, avoiding depression.
