Raipur: Two women from nearby villages in Chandni Biharpur area of Surajpur district were forced to carry on cot to reach an ambulance due to lack of proper roads on Sunday.
In the first incident of civic apathy, a 22-year-old resident of Lulah village was in labor pain but the ambulance could not reach their house on time.
The family members then carried the woman on a cot for 15 kms and took her to Khoir village which took almost three hours.
From there they were facilitated with an ambulance, seeing the weakening condition she was further referred to the Surajpur district hospital and then to the Ambikapur medical hospital.
In another incident, a 25-year-old pregnant woman from village Baijanpath suffering from labor pain, could not be taken directly to the hospital due to inaccessible roads.
The family members had to carry her on a cot for for 13 kms to reach the nearest village Khoir.
They were later provided with 108 ambulances which took her to Biharpur Health Center and then to Surajpur District Hospital, where she gave birth to the child.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. R.S Singh sadi that the health department is trying to change the sub health center to primary health center so that bike ambulances could also be used in such situations. Both the women and their child are safe, doctors confirmed.
The village is in the mid heights of the mountain and due to the unapproachable roads most of the villagers usually trek through the terrain during such emergencies.
